India is a country of contrasts. On the one hand we have the most billionaires in Asia, and in the other we have the largest number of people living below the poverty line. In one hand our engineering institutes produce engineers and technocrats in millions each year, and on the other, there are millions of children who donot have access to the basic education. The disparity amoing the rich and the destitute is constantly growing in India. If India has grow effectively, then this disparity has to reduce.

This is a banner/poster I made last year for some departmental program. It was done in Photoshop in less than an hour. I have somehow lost the original .psd file. This is the lone copy I am having in my PC.

For my GRE and TOEFL exam preparations I am using “DELTA’S Key to TOEFL Test” by Nancy Gallaghar. The edition I am having, has on its cover page the image of a key and a key hole. Here I am presenting my render of the same using Photoshop. I couldn’t exactly find the texture pattern they have used in the original. The background I have used here is made using the cloud filter. That is the closest I could get.

This New Year, I got a greeting Card from a friend with a very lovely hand drawn picture. The blue hue along with the simplicity of the creation immediately intrigued me. I tried Photoshopping the same and this is what I got.
It is an exact copy of the original. The only problem I faced was with the water. The water was done a bit differently there.

Apart from Painting and Photography, I also love to create “Photoshop Illustrations”. I learned it out of compulsion, but it soon became an obsession. There was a time when the only application running on my PC used to be Photoshop. Now that I am busy with my Final Project and other stuff, I can’t give enough time to it, but whenever I can, I try to make something worthwhile.
Here is a photoshopped picture of a couple of cigarettes. It was created entirely in Photoshop. Even the texture of the wood was done in PS.

This is a sketch of the charismatic Indian Railway Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav. This man is responsible for the turn-around of the Indian Railways. He has made the railways profitable, a feat no previous minister has managed to achieve.

Today, its exactly 63 days till I graduate. On May the 16th at 5:00 pm, I will finish my last exam. After that, it will be a different life. I will leave the North-East for ever and head to the south of India. The transition is of mammoth proportions. Starting from the culture to the physical appearance, everything is different. I am thrilled as well as nervous. I am not sure whether I will be able to tolerate this overdose of culture shock.
Recently I visited Tezpur in Assam. This is the place where I grew up. I did my schooling from the local Kendriya Vidyalaya here. So, the memories associated with this place are the most cherished. Tezpur is surrounded by Army barracks on three sides and by the mighty Brhamputra on the other. Spread among these are an array of tea gardens. Tea is the prime export of Assam and one of the largest source of revenue for the state government.
The beauty of a tea garden cannot be explained by words. One has to see it to experience it. When I will leave this part of the country, I am going to miss the tea gardens very much.
One more thing which I am gonna miss, is the Lower Himalayas. The beauty and the serenity with which the clouds cover the massive hills, is something special. Here is one such photo taken by me.

As I have mentioned before that I was given the responsibility of designing the Shristi Poster for 2008. The one which we submitted to the organizing body got rejected, and I was asked to produce three more versions of the poster. The following are the three versions.

The Black-Grey one and the Orange one are the same except the color.
The Green one is the totally new version, which eventually got selected. The printer is going to deliver the final posters, Banners and pamphlets tomorrow. Hopefully, everything will turn out well.

I live in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is one of the places over which India and China are at loggerheads. Though, this place is controlled by India in almost every form imaginable, China claims this to be the part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR).
H.H The Dalai Lama, who is the rightful ruler of Tibet, has been living in exile for the past 50 years in India. China maintains a strong policy of suppressing any protests by the people there and frequently prosecutes key Tibetan leaders. Many Tibetans have fled to India to avoid prosecution by the Chinese. But the ones who are left behind are facing a tough time.
I found a great article in a magazine highlighting the plight of the millions of Tibetans who are left behind in TAR.
There was this photo of an old woman praying with tears in her eyes.
And here is my rendering of the same.

The first time I heard about Hitler was in the seventh grade in the International History course. When I saw his photo I was confused. Why would a dictator with such an evil mind have a mustache like Charlie Chaplin? For me, his entire personality somehow contradicted with his mustache. Later that year, I got his photo somewhere in an encyclopedia and decided to paint a portrait of him. Though it is not exactly how Hitler looked, but I have always considered it to be my version of Hitler.
